Join Me on Saturday, May 22nd, 2010
Hello Family and Friends,
In 2009, I saw many advancements and changes thanks to the the Western NY Chapter of the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA)***. As a trustee board member and support group facilitator I expect even more advancements throughout 2010 including another largely successful Take Steps Walk for Crohn's and Colitis.
Please join me for this year's walk:
PLACE: West Side Rowing Club - 40 Porter Avenue; Buffalo, NY
DATE: Saturday, May 22, 2010
TIME: Registration begins at 4:00PM; Walk begins at 5:00PM
FEE: FREE if you have raised funds or $20.00 at sign-in
There will be a post-walk celebration with food, kids activities, music, and education. Join me as we walk to earn money for research and development to someday find a cure for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.
My Personal Journey
As many of you may know, I have been a Crohn's disease patient since my diagnosis in November 1996. Prior to that, I battled two years or pain, internal bleeding, the inability to travel, catastrophic weight loss, and the loss of my dignity. My diagnosis brought a new way of life to me that, to this day, I apply to maintain my health as best possible through diet, exercise, and education. I have coped with the ups and downs of the condition but refuse to waver to its' affects on my body and my life but, is indeed the greatest battle of my life.
In October 2006 I began attending support group meetings to talk with others who have Crohn's. Later that month, new information surfaced that gave me hope of a future without this condition. That goal is within reach as a major genetic link to the development of Crohn's disease along with more advancement has a faster impact on the diagnosis and treatment of Crohn's. Research dollars make that happen and it is participation, dedication, and donation that make that happen.
Today, I am a national member of the CCFA and my annual contributions go to the work needed to allow people like me to someday be able to live a life free of Crohn's.
Today I ask you to consider contributing to a great cause. Whether it is time, a few dollars, or even both you can help make a difference for everyone affected. That, of course, includes me.
TEAM CROHN'S RED ZONE
The Crohn's Red Zone is inspired by NFL quarterback David Garrard, a Crohn's disease patient since 2004, the Red Zone envisions the race to find a cure for Crohn's and colitis. It's 1st and 10 in the Red Zone and, with the right offense, we hope to score a win in the fight. The Crohn's red Zone is captained by Jason Ettinger, a 14-year patient.
Please join our team or donate to our efforts to support the Red Zone and the CCFA in finding a cure! THANK YOU for your consideration!

Good luck. My mom and sister both live with Crohns - my mom's had it since the 70's, when surgery was the answer, and she's got very little intestines left. My sister controls hers with diet and some medication, and played Division 1 NCAA field hockey at Kent State while dealing with it. _________________

Thanks HM. As you witnessed yourself at Father Christmas I deal with it but can still roll heads on the field when I get out there. I'm fortunate to have not had surgery though the clock is running out. When we gain control so it doesn't rule our lives it makes us stronger beings.
And a bump for this thread so people can signup. _________________ Sir Marcus Lucius Polotono (Retired) |

As I understand, a number of Dag-folk will be headed to the Dogs of War event which falls on the same weekend as the walk.
Some folks have emeiled me and let me know they wouldn't be attending or joining the team but would still like to contribute a personal donation asking how that can be done.
Goto:
http://online.ccfa.org/goto/jasonettinger
Click the 'Support Jason Now' button and you can donate any amount that you would like. Simple as that.
Don't want to do the online thing? Send me a message and I'll give you my mailing address.
If you have any question feel free to ask and thank you for your consideration.

| oh I still intend to go to dogs...but its a sunday battle. So im leaving late saturday after the walk...thats my game plan. this is real life and far more important than a battle to me, especially given all my current medical issues and the idea that they haven't been able to find the cause of my colitis. |

Hello everyone. Taking a moment to post an update on things. As a chapter we are just short of $23,000 raised with a way to go to get to $90,000.
Early thanks go out to Adrius who is the highest team fundraiser next to myself. Nick's email campaign has proven positive.
We are still looking for team members to walk with us at our new location.
PLACE: West Side Rowing Club - 40 Porter Avenue; Buffalo, NY
DATE: Saturday, May 22, 2010
TIME: Registration begins at 4:00PM; Walk begins at 5:00PM
FEE: FREE if you have raised funds or $20.00 at sign-in
We'll take a 2.25 mile walk around LaSalle Park and along the Buffalo waterfront and then there will be a post-walk celebration with food, kids activities, music, Chinese auctions and education.
If you are unable to join us for the walk please consider making a donation to the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation either through sponsorship online at http://online.ccfa.org/goto/jasonettinger or you can send a check made payable to CCFA the CCFA WNY Chapter; 651 Delaware Avenue, Suite 214; Buffalo, NY 14202.
Thank you in advance for your consideration. _________________ Sir Marcus Lucius Polotono (Retired) |

Thank you Sara for joining the madness.
Thanks also to Marcia and Steve for your donation. Marcia, a few years back, was our pace setter and she knows what this effort means to me and others as well as what the donations can do. Thanks again.
I have started fundraising at work. OptumHealth has agreed to hold a dress down month for $10/person that goes to the Take Steps Walk. Within the first hour that the email went out I have had 6 people sign up.
We move ahead. Consider joining the madness. We are doing great things as a chapter thanks to current and past team members. This past week I accepted the role as the interim head of Mission Support. I believe my work as the former head of WHITEFIRE, former HC of Narnia, working to organize events and fundraising, former community theater manager in South Carolina, and other aspects give me this solid step forward to hopefully bring the Take Steps Walk into the main stream in the Buffalo area. You are all to thank in part for that.
If you are unable to join the team please consider a donation.
3 weeks to go. _________________ Sir Marcus Lucius Polotono (Retired) |
